Welcome to Saturday!!!
Yes, yes - your weekly edition of Ink, Paint & Tears... is going up late again this week, and so that's going to be the topic of today's news post as well. I think one of the hardest things that a creative mind runs into along the process is keeping a regular schedule. Pretty much every writer or artist or musician that I know is absolutely horrible at all things punctual, and although a lot of that gets chaulked up to the creative process, another angle to consider is that only a very select few of us actually get to practice creating what we love for a living. For the handful that "make it," there are dozens more sitting at home in basements or garages, drawing and writing and whatnot after they've already put in a full day selling insurance or answering phones at a call center to actually pay the bills.
And mind you, the web is a unique medium to create for because your audience gets used to seeing your work on a regular basis and many end up getting upset when that regular schedule breaks because, hey, we're all only human. As much as we love the craft, sometimes it's just impossible to crank out the weekly strip or column when times are tough at work or you're dealing with a leaky roof that the landlord doesn't seem to care about - the human element is forgotten. Different artists deal with these kinds of things different ways - a few are somehow able to work far enough ahead to maintain a buffer so that their audience will never be afflicted by such issues, while others will just openly take some time off, either posting guest material in the meantime or just walking away. Personally, I would love to be able to boast that we fall into that first category, but in reality, Lori and I are both just really busy right now and pretty much work on one week at a time!
So I just want to make sure everyone understands that when you don't necessarily see a new strip pop up first thing Friday morning, that doesn't necessarily mean that we've up and abandonned Ink, Paint & Tears... or that we don't care about everyone who takes the time to read each week. We're both just really busy right now, creatively and just addressing life in general, and we're doing the best that we can. You'll notice, however, that although we may post late from time to time, with the exception of the week of Lori's wedding, we have yet to just pass on a week altogether and I think that's important. We certainly won't be stopping this crazy train any time soon and we thank you for your continued patience and patronage during the less than perfect times...
And on that note, we cue the music. See you next week!
